Wesel and Den Bosch Fireback

'Presnt by We Sel on De Bosch' (Gift from Wesel to Den Bosch). Souvenir plate to the surprise capture by the Dutch state army in 1629 of the city of Wesel, an important logistics center of the Spanish army with many supplies and, among other things, a wealth of 'millions of 'rijksdaalders'. The intake took place during the grand siege of Den Bosch and ultimately contributed to the victory over the Spaniards in Den Bosch. The victory was a welcome and unexpected boost for the Netherlands, both financially and strategically. The man in the middle is Stadholder, Fredrik Hendrik of Orange. Because of his many successful sieges, he was nickname 'city twister'. The woman on the left could be his wife, Amalia van Solms.
