Joab and Abner Fireback

After King Saul’s death, his army commander Abner supported Saul’s son Ish-bosheth as king over Israel, while Joab led the army of David, who ruled over Judah. A power struggle broke out between the two sides, and Joab and Abner met at the pool of Gibeon, where a violent clash occurred. During the battle, Joab’s brother Asahel chased after Abner but was killed by him. Later, Abner chose to make peace with David and promised to unite all of Israel under his rule. However, Joab, still seeking revenge for his brother’s death, tricked Abner and killed him—despite David having no involvement in the act.
