Fireplace Rack for Andirons | 18" x 12"

By using a fireplace grate on the andirons or firedogs, you elevate the fire from the ground and promote airflow from below. This helps enhance the draft in the fireplace, resulting in more efficient wood combustion, essential for sustainable burning practices.

This grate measures 46 cm (18.1") wide and 30 cm (11.8") deep, featuring a raised edge to keep the wood contained. All dimensions provided are outer measurements. The gap between the beams of the andirons or firedogs for this grate is 36 cm (14.2"). The spacing between the grate's beams themselves is 24 cm (9.4") (including the beams), making it compatible with andirons or fire dogs having beams of at least 24 cm (9.4"). The height difference between the top of the andirons' beams and the top of the fire area of the grate is approximately 1.5 cm (0.59").

Choose a grate that matches the width of the fireplace's back and accommodates the maximum fire size you intend to burn, ensuring it doesn't exceed the width of the cast iron fireback. For further insights, read: 10 Tips for choosing a fireplace grate or andirons

Crafted by a blacksmith in the Netherlands, this grate is constructed from 1.6 cm (0.63") thick steel and weighs 6 kg (13.2 lbs).

Classification: ***: Very good condition, limited wear given the age and use. **: Clear signs of wear and possible structural problems including small instabilities. Still well suited for use in an open fireplace. *: Structural instability that hinders function other than decorative. For example, open fireplace tongs with a loose mechanism so that the ends can overlap. A fireback in this classification can still be used in a gas fireplace or as a backsplash. Should you want additional information about the quality or the classification of a specific fireplace accessory, do not hesitate to ask.
